An age such as 25 years, 4 months, and 12 days means 25 complete years have passed since the birth date, followed by 4 complete calendar months and another 12 days.

Why Age Is More Than Current Year Minus Birth Year
Birth year 2000, reference year 2026 - the difference is 26 years. But if the person's birthday hasn't occurred yet in 2026, their completed age is still 25 years.
Months have different lengths, and leap years add an extra day roughly every four years - a calendar-aware calculation has to account for both before it can report a complete, accurate age.
Leap Years and February 29 Birthdays
Leap years include February 29, but someone born on that date doesn't have a February 29 available every year - only in leap years. This calculator still tracks elapsed calendar age correctly across leap and non-leap years alike, and when checking a February 29 birthday against a non-leap reference year, it treats February 28 as that year's equivalent date for the purpose of the calculation.

Why can age calculations around the end of a month be tricky?
